DISCOVERING THE “DIGITAL MOON” WITH SHTP-IC – BRINGING TECHNOLOGY CLOSER TO CHILDREN

In the 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival program themed “Digital Moon – Loving Connection,” organized by Tang Nhon Phu ward, local children enjoyed a joyful and colorful Mid-Autumn night that harmoniously combined traditional cultural values with modern science and technology experiences.

Along side musical performances, circus acts, magic shows, and interactions with the Moon Lady and Moon Man, the program featured a variety of interactive activities that applied technology to digitize and recreate familiar images and characters associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival in ways that were more engaging, vivid, and accessible to children.

Experience Technology Through Hands-On Activities

As part of the program’s activities, SHTP-IC collaborated with KDI Education to organize a science and technology discovery space for local children. Here, they had the opportunity to directly experience a range of interactive activities, becoming familiar with robots, virtual reality, augmented reality, and design thinking through age-appropriate games and activities.

Key activities included:

– Robotic Arm: Children directly controlled a robotic arm to pick up and move objects to their desired positions.

– Tangram – Creative Geometry: Children explored geometry by arranging puzzle pieces, developing spatial thinking and creativity.

– Starter Kit: Children learned the basic principles of control and directly experienced operating a robotic car.

– Virtual Reality Coloring: Drawings created by the children were transformed into moving 3D models on the screen.

– AR Cube: Children designed and explored an augmented reality space with the theme “Mid-Autumn Night.”

Through these hands-on activities, technology was introduced to children in an intuitive, engaging, and accessible way. From controlling a robotic arm and operating a robotic car to creating 3D images and augmented reality spaces, the children had the opportunity to both have fun and discover how technology can be applied in real-life contexts.

Planting the Seeds of Interest in Science and Technology

Beyond adding an engaging highlight to the Mid-Autumn Festival, the experiential space also contributed to bringing science and technology closer to children through activities that were simple, intuitive, and highly interactive.

Through the collaboration with KDI Education, SHTP-IC aims to expand science and technology experiential activities for children, creating opportunities for them to actively explore, nurture curiosity, develop creative thinking, and gradually cultivate an interest in science and technology.
