Semi-final of “Ra khoi 20 Startup Ideas” Contest

On June 05th, 2021, after over 2 months launching, Startup Ideas Contest with the topic “Ra khoi 20” organized by Department of Business and Administration of Van Lang University was officialy completed the Semi-final, with the exciting competition of 15 teams.

In a joyful atmosphere, Semi-final of “Ra khoi 20 Startup Ideas” Contest organized by the Department of Business and Administration of Van Lang University via Online Zoom application and directly broadcasted on Fanpage of Department. Semi-final took place with the particiation of over 60 students from many universities: Van Lang University, Hutech University, University of Social Science and Humanities HCM City, University of Finance and Marketing, University of Science HCM City, University of Agriculture and Forestry HCM City, Open University HCM City, Aviation Insitute,… at Van Lang University, “Ra Khơi 20” playground attracted a large number of not only Business and Administration students but also from other Departments: Department of Art & Design, Department of Oto Technology, Department of Information Technology, Department of Engineering, Department of Social Science and Humanities, Department of Public Relation and Communication…

“Ra Khoi 20” entrepreneurship playground organized by Department of Business and Adminstration of Van Lang University with the Elimination Round – Idea from March 20th to April 09th, 2021. After that, Organizer selected 30 teams that have innovation entrepreneurship ideas to attend the Semi-final. Before the official Semi-final on June 05th , 2021, teams had attended 03 Training courses with speakers: Ph.D Nguyen Quynh Mai (Dean of Department of Business and Administration of Van Lang Unversity), MS. Duong Thi Ngoc Lien (Lecturer of Bach Khoa University HCMC) and consulting teams including 19 Mentors, then modifying, improving business model, persuasion from Judges Commitee.

The Semi-final organized on Zoom application, 15 teams divided into 2 groups A and B. Each group has 4 Judges. Each team presented their project and persuaded Judges to select the best 6 teams attending the Final Round.

Students’s projects reflected many aspects of society such as: clean vegetable, recycled products, job finding application, mental health solution, fashion… also have many projects applying practically such as Digital Namecard project of Tit-Team. After each presentation, teams also got “hot” feedbacks from Judges. Besides that, projects with good and unique ideas will be invested by Van Lang University, Mentors support teams to develop products completely, be able to commercialize, more and more develop in future.

Sharing about quality of teams this year, Mr. Le Duc Phuc – MS of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, University of Nottingham, appreciated highly for students: “I used to be a Judge and Organizer of similar contests. However today, with the Startup Idea Contest of “Ra Khoi 20” topic, I was really surprised, everything exceeded my expectation from Ideas quality to Team quality. Especially, Van Lang students are so confident and present persuasively with Judges Committee”.

Through out the contest, Mr. Trinh Minh Cuong – CEO Happy Young House, Alumni of Department of Business and Adminstration of Van Lang University has some sincerely sharings for young entrepreneurs: “In R&D products, the important thing of one business idea is uniqueness. Try your best during time as a student to study a lot, read a lot of books, go to many places. When you can apply your knowledge to approach the reality, then you will create excellent business ideas”.

After 3 hours serious competition, Judges Committee extremely decided to give 6 Final Round tickets for 6 teamsi:

  • CLUBE PROJECT TEAM with Dress up yourself project – Application to connect renters and lease of clothing service.
  • SUBMARINE TEAM with Organic vegetable project.
  • FISTAR TEAM with Fijob project to find jobs for freelancer.
  • NFO TEAM with Free up closet with one touch project.
  • FORTIS FORTUNA TEAM with Psychological solution R U OK? project
  • 3T1N TEAM with Household products from coffee grounds.

With this results, Representative of Organizer, Dr. Nguyen Quynh Mai – Dean of Department of Business and Administration said: “Although only 6 teams entered the Final Round, with today’s contest, all teams were winners and made their own mark. In the near future, Department of Business and Administration of Van Lang University will launch a Startup Club supporting all students whether they are finalists or not to continue to develop projects and turn ideas to reality. Hopefully, teams that didn’t make it to the final will not give up and continue to develop their journey”.

Besides that, on the morning of June 07th, Department of Business and Adminstration also announced the result of the Poster Show round with the victory belonging to the FORTIS FORTUNA team with a video introducing the psychological solution R U OK? – Take stress away from you. The video has reached more than 11,000 views, 4,100 emotions, 1,700 shares and 990 comments, FORTIS FORTUNA got a cash prize of VND 1,000,000 and 5 books written by Dr. Nguyen Quynh Mai, Head of Organizing Committee, Head of Department of Business and Adminstration sincerely signed.

The Semi-final of the Startup Ideas Contest with the theme “Ra khoi 20” took place on the anniversary of the young Nguyen Tat Thanh’s departure to find a way to save the country. On that day, Uncle Ho’s youth chose the challenge to find a way for the country. Today, studying and folowing Uncle Ho’s image, students in Ho Chi Minh City challenge themselves to contribute youth to the country’s innovation. Department of Business and Adminstration with the mission of becoming one of the best places to train talented entrepreneurs and leaders in the future, will continue to create many useful playgrounds for students so that studetns are bold and confident to show their talents on the business journey.
